Helloes...
I'm Lea Wade, or you may even know me better as 'Jammilicious', either way welcome to my retina-burning website and online portfolio.
I'm a UK based, freelance Illustrator whose been shuffling around this land we call "Eng" for about 25 years now. I've recently graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BA(hons) in Illustration. I'm well-versed in various aspects of design, my strengths being rooted in visual communication, draughtsmanship, digital painting, bookbinding, hand-drawn type and photography, but at heart I'm a passionate character designer.
It's an area I've been fascinated with ever since I was little, although back then my characters tended to just be female versions of Dangermouse and Count Duckula (I was really little!).
I'm aiming to work in the entertainment industry as a concept artist and due to the speedy nature of the job, my work is now almost solely digital. I love the accuracy of Photoshop but I feel that perfection lacks lot of charm, so when I work digitally I usually try to incorporate traditional elements like pen and ink line-art or textures gathered from around the home.
My latest project, 'Dreamscapedia' was recently exhibited at New Designers in London. The project took the form of a hand-made book, written and illustrated by myself and a fictional co-author called 'T.M. Soenso'. The book is based around Soenso trying to understand the nature of dream characters/creatures and what happens to them when you wake up. Through studying dreams and interviewing other vivid dreamers, myself and Soenso build upon our concepts and theories, and eventually create a new story about the characters who have appeared in our interviewee's dreams. I intend to carry on interviewing people for the 'Dreamscapedia' and developing the story that grew from it in the future, but for now I'm getting myself stuck into some fresh ideas which include ventures into comics, advertising, 3d modelling, artist's books and animation.
